This "Open Streets" activity was a first for Red Deer. It was a new event where selected streets in the downtown core were temporarily closed to automobile traffic. The streets became “paved parks”. This event included three (3) satellite stations where participants were provided with safe and beautiful routes at 10:30 a.m. to the Downtown core to enjoy a car free experience. The stations included the Dawe Centre, Safety City and the Collicutt Centre. In addition to the open streets in the core there were a variety of activities, including, but not limited to: food trucks, open restaurants and cafes, active living association booths, Primary Care Network booths, bicycle repair demos, bicycle helmet fitting demos, etc. And if you were too tired to ride back up the hill, there was were free bus rides out of the Downtown when you received one of our special tokens!
